New Audio Play Focuses on Creativity and Friendship at St. Louis Juvenile Detention Center

Participants in PPA’s Arts & Healing program at Saint Louis Juvenile Detention Center recently wrote and performed a new audio play titled We've Come a Long Way, but We Have Further to Go.

Led by PPA teaching artist Carl Overly, Jr., this project emphasized creativity and teamwork. Carl split the students into three groups, and tasked them with crafting a story centered on friendship and mutual support. The project fostered self-expression, collaboration, and learning.

When asked about their favorite part of the writing process, some students mentioned getting to write their own stories, coming together as a team, and expanding their vocabulary.

This project highlights the power of arts in transformation and growth. We are proud of our students and grateful to Carl Overly, Jr. for his guidance.

We invite you to experience this incredible journey by listening to the audio play here.
